Anne Frank was born on 12 June 1929 in Frankfurt. Her father was a spice merchant and owned two companies before the war. Anne was studying at a Jewish school. Moreover, she was often praised by her teachers due to her aptitude for reading and writing. She also had a sister called Margot. Anne and her family were closed together, as she wrote in her diary “I have a family, loving parents and good home.” This shows how she enjoyed having a blessed family. Similarly, Abe Goldberg was born on 23 June 1929, but in Poland. He was the youngest of four siblings and he was the only boy. His father joined the socialist movement of the bund since his early ages but unfortunately murdered by the Nazis in 1942. Furthermore, before Abe was sent to the ghettos, he and his family had been in the textiles business in Poland. After Anne and her family exposed for hiding in the secret annex for 25 months, they got arrested by the Germans. They were sent to several ghettos and were forced to do labour works such as hauling rocks and digging rolls of sod. Anne was then separated with her father and male family friends as male and female were not kept in the same area. While fighting against the sadness and a skin disease called scabies, her mother and some of her friends died consecutively due to starvation and fatigues which clearly shows how she struggled in concentration camps. This was also mirrored in Abe. In 1942, 20000 Jewish people were deported to the Chelmno death camp which includes all of his family except his mother. Unfortunately his mother was also killed after surviving for another 2 years, before Abe and his mother got separated, his mother told him to live strongly and spread their stories. According to Abe’s information, his mother said “You should do everything humanly to survive, when you survive, you should tell people what was happening to us and what was done to us so people will prevent anything like this will never happen again” Furthermore, during his months in the Auschwitz camp, he was subjected to humiliation and abuse.
