Anne Bradstreet displays a variety of emotions in her works. Her different stories are swayed by whatever emotion she may have been feeling. Because she writes about real life events it’s easy to see into her mind. In To My Dear and Loving Husband Anne presents an overwhelming feeling of love through her work. “Thy love is such I can no way repay,/ The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray” (120). In the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, July 10th, 1666 Bradstreet pleads with God to help her through this stressful situation. “And to my God my heart did cry/ To strengthen me in my distress” (122). Most people would be cursing at their Gods in a situation like this but she is calling out to hers for strength. Not only that, but one can also see how calm and humble of a person she is. “I blest His name that gave and took,/ That laid my goods now in the dust./ Yea, so it was, and so ‘twas just. It was His own, it was not mine” (122). Bradstreet didn’t show any signs of breaking. In fact, her ideals were strengthened in that moment.
