With her religion she is only allowed to focus on God and only God. If she was caught focusing on something else, or even look like she is caring about something other than God she will be seen as a bad person or not a good Puritan. I think part of the reason she is taking her husband leaving so hard, is because she knows that she isn't supposed to put all her focused on losing and missing him. In the poem, she shows a lot of emotions about her husband, and about her kids, in her other poems she talks about her other struggles and brings God into her struggles. To me it seems like she hasn't really talked about God in this poem, and it is probably because she feels guilty that none of her focus is on him. I think that she knows that she need to put more attention on God than her husband, but she is just so heartbroken that she feels like she cannot put her attention on anyone else. Those are some of her religious problems she has.
