Why do people choose to live a boring life? This is a question Anne Bonny might have asked herself because her life was nothing if not exciting. Anne Bonny was one of the few female pirates that lived in the early 1700’s. Her family originated from Ireland but later moved to America shortly after Anne was born. Anne Bonny had many characteristics that were uncommon for women at that time. Particularly, her need to be adventurous and to travel. While she wasn’t the most respectable person, Anne Bonny is the most famous female pirate because she was a fierce tomboy who lived by her own rules, didn’t let herself be considered someone else’s property, and was a very skilled fighter. …show more content…
First of all, Governor Rogers decided now would be the time to put his new plan into action. He offered a pardon to any pirate who swore to never again do any act of pirating. Many more pirates came to New Providence to take this deal (Driscoll). Among these pirates was Jack Rackam who is known as Calico Jack due to the colorful clothing he wore (“Anne Bonny.” UXL Biographies.). When Anne and Calico Jack first met it was said to be love at first sight. Calico Jack wooed Anne with interesting trinkets and gifts. They began to spend lots of time together (Driscoll). However, when James found out about this he was furious. During this time period, married women were considered their husbands property (Wren 53-54). Using this, James took Anne to court for spending too much time with Calico Jack (Driscoll). The court said that she had to return to her husband and James even threatened to have her flogged if she didn't obey the court (“Anne Bonny.” UXL Biographies.). However, Anne was in love with Calico Jack and did not do well with taking orders. Calico Jack tried to solve the problem by offering to buy Anne from James in a divorce purchase, a common practice at that time. Nevertheless, Anne did not let Calico Jack do this for her because she refused to be sold like an animal. Without a doubt Anne was going to solve her own problems (HIGHLEYMAN). Anne decided her best option was to run away with Calico Jack. So the two crafty pirates put their heads together and came up with a

This film is definitely an extremely amazing historical film. "Anne of the Thousand Days" showcases the lies of a "leggy girl" to the downfall of the lioness Anne Boleyn. Without Geneviève Bujold, this film would fail at showing the witty and intelligent queen at the time in her life that was the most scandalous; Bujold portrays Boleyn as a witty and provocative girl as well as showing her as a hurt and power-hungry woman who's swift actions are no match for the lies and rumors of the English court in the 16th century. Richard Burton's performance as Henry VIII is amazing as well and shows that the famous monarch was a misogynistic dolt who only thought of women as the producers of his future heir. While the film's historical accuracy is…

In many cases, people of color acted as booty. With the slave trade thriving in the Atlantic, pirates often preyed on the slave ships along the Middle Passage in hopes of capturing the ‘bounty’ and selling it for themselves, much like what John Hawkins had done at the dawn of English privateering. While the pirates had no qualms in selling their ‘loot’ in the North American colonies, they also held allowed for runaway slaves to join their ranks, as well as free blacks. Moreover, these black pirates were given full initiation into the pirate brotherhood, allowing them the ability to rise in ranks on the ship should their crewmates deem them worthy. Yet, despite the offer of full companionship for some people of color, others were subjected to the same treatment that they would otherwise have on shore.…
