In the short story “The Name Is Mine” Quindlen, is at home while her son is at the hospital receiving treatment. This strikes as odd since as a parent I could not imagine myself being anywhere but with my child in such a situation. Her emotional state is understandable but the fact that for the first time she is responding to the name Mr. Krovatin when she professes to be married.
The writer's most significant point is that her name is as much a part of her like the heart that beats within her chest. That was the name she was given at birth, her identity, who she is. While she supports her decision to keep her name with political, professional and even personal preference the bottom line is that her decision
