The untitled artwork from “The Entre Pausas (Between Pauses) Series” by the Brazilian artist Anna Maria Maiolino during the late 1960s and early 1970s, portrays the struggle of women living in a patriarchal society. Anna Maria Maiolino was born in Italy, but due to World War II, she immigrated with her family to South America. She first lived in Venezuela and later moved to Brazil in 1960. Throughout her career as an artist, Maiolino has interpreted social issues in most of her paintings, drawings, photos, and sculptures.
One of the purposes for one of her artwork, which will be analyzed and described later in this paper, is due to one of her experiences visiting New York.
