In the beginning of Yezierska’s story she began with a hopeful and excited tone. Her hopes were to redeem freedom in America, which in line two she says, “America was a land of living hope, woven of dreams, a flame with longing hope.” In the next section her tone became more appreciative. She says, “ I felt that the America that I sought was nothing but a shadow- an echo- a chimera of lunatics and crazy immigrants.”. After all the work she had been doing she was still yet to achieve what she had came to America for. In the last section her tone changes a little into thankful, hopeful and understanding. Line 105 she starts off by saying “ Then I came to light- a great revelation! I saw America- a big idea- a deathless hope- a world still in the making. I saw that it was the glory of America that it was not finished,”. She began to understand why she found little hope in America after all she went through she says “ Fired up by this revealing light, I began to build a bridge of understanding between the American- born and myself.”. She was understanding how she only got to know about the ghetto side of
