One article that we had read during class that I believe personally that is very important is “Dressing for the job” by Ann Marie Sabath. In this article, Ann Marie Sabath talks about the unwritten “rules” in the workforce. In college, students are taught the rules of the classroom or the rules of the campus while in the workforce these rules are not stated straightforwardly. A rule in the workforce that would be as Ann Marie Sabath calls “unwritten” would be dress code. Going into a job you have to make sure that the clothing you wear everyday is appropriate. For the women, wearing skin-toned hosieries when their outfit consists of shorts sleeves helps balance the look. Along with the hosieries, women should also not wear darker shoes than their hem. Moving on up towards the leg area, women should be cautious about wearing slacks to their workplace. A tip the author gives for this is that if you have yet to see other female employees wear them then you should stay away. Another article of clothing the author suggests women stay away from are short skirts. Many workplaces offer business casual days. On these days this does not mean that women should wear short skirts. Women should try and look like they mean business. Going up a section, the author states that men should wear undershirts and should button blazers or jackets they might wear. The reason for this is because this gives men a more polished look. In general, women should not wear more than thirteen accessories. This ties back to the idea that you, as a worker, should want to look like you mean business. Some more obvious tips the author suggests is to press your clothing and to schedule hair cuts often to top off your
