In 1954, Richard Liebeskind was the founder and creator of the first Ann Taylor store. The first store opened then in Haven, Connecticut. In 1983, Ann Taylor grew from a regional brand to a national brand with 47 stores across the United States. (ANN INC. Gap is first. Gap offers clothing and accessories to adults, kids, and babies. Second, Banana Republic, which was founded in 1978. This brand of clothing appeals to the professional workplace style for both men and women. Banana Republic was acquired by Gap in 1983 (GapInc). The third brand is Old Navy. Old Navy was founded in 1994 and got its name from a bar in Paris. In 1997, Old Navy became the first retailer to reach $1 billion in annual sales in less than four years of operation. is kind of the same as Ann Inc. except instead of two brands, Gap Inc has five brands which allows them to maintain a well balanced portfolio while using a related diversification strategy. These five different brands hits all different groups of people. Old Navy targets the more middle and average families and covers, babies, kids, teenagers, and adults. These middle and average people shop here because the clothes are priced somewhat decent but still have high quality. As you make your way through the five brands you will find that Banana Republic and INTERMIX are by far the most high-end brands of Gap Inc. These stores have designer clothing which means that the price of these items are far more expensive than Old Navy items. Lastly, Athleta adds a more sporty and fitness apparel that not many of the other brands offer. Having a variety of different clothes makes Gap Inc.
