Quick changes in direction, jumping, and cutting are factors that play a vital role in spraining an ankle. Soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, and volleyball are sports with a high risk rate because of those actions. Of the musculoskeletal injuries that occur in the athletic population, close to 45% are comprised of ankle sprains (Kaminski & Stant, p. 10). Most sprains happen due to stress on the ligaments of the ankle. Depending on the degree of the tear and how critical, determines which Grade category the injury falls under. There are three Grades: Grade I (mild) is stretching of the ligaments, Grade II (moderate) is partial tearing of the ligaments, and Grade III (severe) is a complete tear of all the ligaments. They are the most common injuries in any activity and will most likely be experienced by everyone during their lifetime. In my opinion, I felt like this article was very informative. As a former athlete, I know I suffered from rolled ankles during a few games. I wish I would've know this information so that I could've taken the proper treatment to prevent any future injuries.particularly athletes because their trainers provide it, it usually decreases in strength and doesn't guarantee maximum stability
