She gave birth to the son of Cortés, one of the first mestizo children of America, which would lead to many more mestizo births in the future. Malinche most likely was the one to tell Cortés of the Eastern god that the Aztec empire was waiting for. This knowledge given to Cortés resulted in him taking advantage of the Aztecs by pretending to be this Eastern god. The Aztec people worshipped him and he was able to control the empire quite easily after that. Malinche helped the Spaniards understand the language of the native people and communicate effectively with the Aztecs. Augustine was the first permanent European settlement in current day United States. It was the city that would pave the way for future colonization and settlement of North America, and lead to the creation of the United States. Although many aspects of the city failed, such as its defense system against the natives, colonists were able to learn from St. Augustine’s mistakes and create bigger and better cities built to last. St. Augustine proved to Europe that America was worth colonizing too, not just to be exploited for riches such as gold and silver like the Spanish had been doing for so long. Established in Florida by the Spanish, Florida continues to be a heavily Spanish-influenced area. Because of its roots in cities like St. Augustine, this influence is still strong today as well as other cities in once Spanish controlled territories. This important aspect of these areas defines the culture of
