magical to the viewer. Though it can be underappreciated, animation provides a new way to
explain a story to all its viewers, which can stay with them for the rest of their lives. Walt Disney
Animation Studios and Studio Ghibli are two of the biggest contributors to that, ranking as some
of the most successful animation companies in the past years. Movies like Frozen and Finding
Nemo from Disney, and My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke from Ghibli, are highly
renowned across the globe for solid storytelling and beautiful animation. These two studios,

Disney and Ghibli have both been praised for their expert
storytelling, but with such a large gap between what both desire to accomplish, their stories are
anything but similar.
With such differences between Disney and Ghibli, one would think their viewers to be
for one and against the other, but that doesn’t seem to be true. Fans of animation, though usually
having a preference, enjoy both studios’ films for different reasons and rarely ever criticize the
best motion pictures of either studio. Even the companies themselves don’t hold any malice
towards each other, even with being competitors within the same trade. This can be shown with
the collaboration between the two for the movie Ponyo, with the use of Ghibli’s art and story to
make the movie and Disney’s large reputation to sell it. As the years go on, changes are bound
to be made to each studio, but it will always hold true that Disney will be the powerhouse of
entertainment and high quality visuals, and Ghibli will be the master of deeply moving and
artistically interesting
