In our time, we use animals in many occasions, all of which could be contestable for animal abuse and exploitation. From the chickens in battery cages to the orcas doing shows in marina parks and now the horses dragging around carriages. Animals are used because we believe we can control their innocent and willing selfs to fulfill our needs and entertainment. Fortunately, we also live in a time where there is an uprise in people concerned with human-animal relationships and taking their needs into consideration as well. We need to reevaluate our system and uses for animals starting with analyzing a common work day for horses pulling carriages in New York City. Horses suffer extensive hours everyday, with their hooves pounding on the hard concrete pavement and breathing in the toxic polluted air from being nose-to-tailpipe. Horses pulling carriages all day experience many long and hard work days. Whether they are pulling different groups of strangers every hour, pounding their hooves on the hard concrete, breathing in the toxic air and living in their heavy harnesses the result is unhealthy horses. Not only is their physical health at risk, but their mental well being is as well. Let’s stop this cruelty, let’s stop this selfish tradition, and let’s make our horses happy
