Animals Can Think In Eugene Linden's Article Can Animals Think

Have you ever wondered if animals can think? That is what Eugene Linden and Josh Plotnik are trying to find out. They have seen and conducted experiments on many animals and all their observations prove that animals can think. There were surprised by this so they decided to write an article about it. Using these articles, this essay was made proving why animals can think.
One way this statement is shown is in the article Can Animals Think, by Eugene Linden, was when he talked about Fu Manchu. The text says, “First, the young ape climbed down some air-vent louvers into a dry moat. Then, taking hold of the bottom of the furnace door, he used brute force to pull it back just far enough to slide a wire into the gap, slip a latch and pop the door open.” This shows that Fu Manchu had the strength and intelligence to find his way out of his cage and use it to escape when the time is right. Furthermore, the text also states,

For example the text says, “Chantek's understanding of money seems to have extended far beyond simple transactions to such sophisticated concepts as inflation and counterfeiting. Lyn first used poker chips as the coin of the realm, but Chantek decided that he could expand the money supply by breaking the chips in two. When Lyn switched to using washers, Chantek found pieces of aluminum foil and tried to make imitation washers that he could pass off as the real thing.” This quote shows that Chantek learns how the money works and deceitfully tries to make copies of the money to try and pass it off as real money. Furthermore, the text also states, “A sad fact of life is that it is easier to spot evidence of intelligence in devious behavior than in acts of cooperation or love.” This follows up the idea of deceitfully using intelligence to obtain your own needs to get what you want. Therefore, this paragraph shows how intelligence can be used to gain your own

] Do you think animals are intelligent? Using the two articles “Animal Snoops” and “How smart are animals” I can infer that animals are intelligent. I think this because in the article “Animal Snoops”, it says that animals eavesdrop on their prey so they can get their food. I also think that animals are intelligent because in the article “How smart are animals” it says that they can learn to solve a problem using motions in front of them. That's two things that support my statement that animals are very intelligent.…

Rifkin says that philosophers and animal behaviorists have argued about the capability of self –awareness in other animals. While some argue that animals do not have self-awareness because “they lack a sense of individualism”, others beg to differ. A counter statement that Rifkin utilizes is the remarkable actions elephants do when they are faced with a dead kin. Elephants will “often stand next to their dead kin for days,” and occasionally touch “their bodies with their trunks. After contributing to anticipate the common objection, many people would realize that animals are not much different than us.…

When an animal is said to be deliberating or conceptualizing among other things it is said to be thinking and this thinking is said to be taking place within its mind. When a computer is processing information on route to its end goal it is said to be computing. Computing however is a term sometimes used in the realm of animals as well. In math class the teacher may instruct her students to “compute 5+5=x” and the students, without the aid of technology, may mentally compute the equation.…

Along with this idea and the idea of childhood memories of money, he concluded that identity constituency such as race, age and gender also impacts our idea of money. This is known as the broader experience of the society that not only impacts our idea about money but well as other aspects of our lives (Unit 1.1, 09/08/16). It is evident that we make money and money makes us because our identity constituencies define what money is to us and because of these broader experience of the society, money makes us. For example, we create the idea of what has value and what doesn’t and this idea is how we make money, (i.e. by putting a value on it). When we live by the norm of the society on what is valuable and what is not, then we can say that money makes us because it affects our decisions and…

“Describe some research studies which have addressed the issue of whether non-human animals have a “theory of mind ', and explain what these studies have allowed psychologists to conclude in answer to the issue.” Chimpanzees are humans closest relatives and therefore are a good animal to study when attempting to assess whether non human animals have a theory of mind. This essay will attempt to first define what is meant by theory of mind, then will look at three studies and their approaches to researching theory of mind in non- human animals. It will briefly summarise, in turn, what each study attempted to achieve, how the study was conducted, and the subsequent finding of each study, specifically looking at areas of theory of mind which relate to chimps ' understanding of human problem solving and visual perception in both humans and other chimpanzees. “Theory of mind” refers to the way in which people understand other humans as thinking beings.…
