I have seen cats and tried to catch them, but they are either too feral or uncatchable. I have caught one dog when I was younger and I have also seen dogs on the road but could not catch them. Before I got the job, catching a dog or cat was out of the picture because the only thing I could do with it was to take it to the shelter and not see it again, which I really didn’t want to do. But now that I have the job, if a dog was nice and good to handle, we could take it in to the rescue and rehome it. I thought to myself that if that dog is still there it is meant for me to stop and pick it up. So I left my house and was on my way; I would say I kind of had an adrenaline rush going with the idea of saving a dog. I pulled off at the bottom of the very steep hill that it was on and decided to walk up and see if I can get ahold of the dog. I grabbed a leash I had in my car and looped it so it will just go over the dog’s head. I was shaking a bit from being excited and nervous about if things will go well. I made my way up the large hill on the side of the road, it was so hot that day I was sweating and out of breath. I stopped at about fifteen feet away from the dog so that it can get use to my presence. The dog stared at me with fear at first and was sitting up on guard mode. I talked to the dog to get it more relaxed and calm; I took baby steps closer to it till I was about ten feet away. I was about to take another step, but stopped when the dog started to growl. I started to get nervous that the dog might come after me but also thought if I give up now this dog might not make it. I also thought back to this guy I watch on YouTube that rescues dogs, he said “I just want people to think about it as 10 seconds of an extreme stress for a lifetime of happiness,” which means that they growl and when they fight to get away from you it usually lasts for 10 seconds and then they realize it’s going to be okay (Sutyak).
