Animal Welfare Act 2006:
The animal welfare act states that owners of the animals must take responsibility for their animals and must give the correct care for their animals. Most importantly they must follow the five welfare needs which are:
• need for a suitable environment
• need for a suitable diet

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES)
CITES is an international agreement between governments. Its aim1 is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
CITES is used to control the trade of endangered or protected species, it controls the import or export to third countries of dead or living controlled species as well as different parts of the animal such as; skin, fur, teeth or blood.
Zoonosis Order 1989:
Zoonosis order controls the diseases that are being spread by animals, if an animal has a disease such as rabies it should be ‘put down’ so the disease doesn’t spread any further and other animals and people are therefore at a lower risk of catching the disease. All animals that are found to have a serious illness or disease that can spread can or will be killed so it doesn’t keep spreading to man and other animals. This could be bad for farmers as they could lose their farm life stock as the disease might have already spread and therefore can’t take any chances so all the animals need to be killed.
