Animal Testing Unnecessary Essay

Improved Essays
Animal testing is an unnecessary part of science that should be gotten rid of completely. Instead of sacrificing the lives of innocent animals, we should spend our time studying the cells of humans and how the product can impact someone before testing it on humans. Animals used for scientific or product testing are under an unnatural and stressful environment, one they would otherwise never come across in life, causing the animal to not react as it should. The Animal Welfare Act states that animals can be burned, shocked, and poisoned. They also state that any experiment that wants to be tested is prohibited no matter how trivial it may be. Also, when most scientists are offered an alternative to the use of animals that can work just as well, like studying the cells, they are typically denied and the scientists decide to forgo testing. Overall, animal testing is a waste of time and money considering the testing is not always accurate because of the differences of cell structure and organ systems between humans and animals. It has been proven that by studying cell cultures in a small dish, more relevant results can be produced as opposed to animal testing because human cells can be used. I strongly believe that animal testing is insignificant and is terrible for research. These animals did not choose to give us their lives in order to test them. The main reason animals testing is not right is because the testing is not always accurate because of the different bodies and how they can react differently due to illnesses and if the ingredients are able to process through the body as easily as they do for humans. Although the product tested succeeds majority of the time, about 95% of drugs fail in human trials when they first come on the market when used for human consumption. If a human refuses to test a product first, why should an animal? …show more content…
An example of a medication that did not succeed through testing would be penicillin. This medication was first tested on a lab rat and the scientist was very disappointed about how his discovery did not work. However, when he had a patient and no other medication to give them the scientist gave the patient penicillin. It was soon discovered that this was a life saver and although it did not work on a rat, it worked on a human. Not only that, but in a recent study it was discovered that using mice and rats in testing is only accurate about 43% of the time, which is not a good enough reason to use them for testing. Lastly, 92% of the drugs that have passed animal testing immediately fail when first tried by a human because they are found as useless and/or dangerous. Found in a recent study, out of 93 dangerous drug side effects, only 19% have been predicted through animal tests. Some say that animal testing is extremely necessary because we need it to keep the human species safe. Animal testing is also suggested and used by majority of scientists. Furthermore, the opposing side states that since most animals have the same organ systems as humans the product should work similarly. Lastly, the antithetical side claims that 95% of genes in a mouse are also found in a human. Imagine being scared, never seeing you family again. not knowing what will happen next, just sitting in a dark room alone,

However, prior to the article I did not contemplate or think about the issue or even its effectiveness. One thing in which I was surprised by was some of the statistics that was mentioned throughout the article. For example, I was unaware that out of all the drugs that pass animal tests, about 94 percent will fail clinical trials for humans. Majority of drugs that pass animal tests are often discarded immediately due to being deemed useless or harmful to humans, which is one of the reasons why activists contemplates that animal testing is useless (Stachura, 2008).…

Approximately 92% of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals eventually fail in human trials because they end up not working or are too dangerous. That begs the question whether or not animal testing is a necessary practice. If the product is going to go to human trial anyways, why not start there? Although some may argue that put people’s lives in danger, but that is what volunteers are for. As well as having volunteers there are also people who are in prison for heinous crimes that could be used to be tested on.…

Many products that are tested are tested for safety reasons. According to the FDA about 48% of animal drug testing is successful The Biomedical Research Association has said that almost every single medical breakthrough in the past 100 years has directly come from animal research. While this may be true, however, it also shows that 52% of animal drug tests fail. Thus, animal testing is not valid a majority of the time.…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…

There are a number of cheaper alternatives that many scientists can use to make medical discoveries. “Animal testing is time and resource consuming and cost far more than non-animal testing.” (HIS) Scientists spend billions of dollars per year, just putting animals through procedures that may or may not help advance us in the medical field. The National Cancer Institute had a research budget of over two billion dollars. The National Institute of Health had thirty one billion dollars to fund their cruel and often bizarre experiments that we have known for decades don’t lead to cures for humans.…

Ninety-two percent of experimental drugs that are safe and effective in animals, fail in human clinical trials due to it being harmful or just not working. Animal testing is a strategic practice that cause a prodigious, or a huge, amount of animal deaths. Animals would get injected with medications, which and it can possibly lead to death. Animals are also forced to breed with other animals to create another similar species if an animal goes extinct, and that doesn’t always end up in success. Some examples of animals that are tested on are mice, rats, frogs, and hamsters.…

Thoughtful and creative title The total amount of animals killed each year in research is 19,500,000, there are many opinions on animal testing on whether it is beneficial or necessary. Proponents think that animal testing is important because it keeps humans from unnecessary testing, and helps us come up with new techniques to keep people healthy. Opponents oppose this because there are alternatives to animal testing, it is not safe for animals, and animals are very different from human beings and therefore make poor test subjects. In my opinion, I think that if there are alternatives to animal testing that there is no question that we should switch over.…

I think animal testing is better than human testing, on the contrary, it can be said that it is cruel. They have shorter life spans than humans, which make them a very valuable asset in human research. In addition some animals have a similar body in internal and external body features. They also are treated with care and they are kept calm, they do not abuse the animals. We can help prevent diseases with their help in human anatomy and health.…

The True Pain Of Safety Over many continents and through many time periods animal testing has had a strong presence in science. Many places and companies today have discontinued the use of animals due to its, at times, extremely inhumane practice. Though without the use of animals, many important discoveries, procedures, and vaccines wouldn’t have been found. Animal testing, though some has been found to be cruel, is a helpful tool for future discoveries, and should be continued today because of the usefulness in researching for the safety of humankind.…

Alternative methods exist and can be used in place of animals, and these alternative methods can also be a cheaper option. Animals and humans are entirely different, so the use of animals doesn’t even provide accuracy, so even if a product passes an animal test, it doesn’t even mean it’s entirely safe. Nearly 95% of animals being used in various experiments are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. A large majority of experiments run on animals are flawed and often don’t produce a concise result, making them a waste of time and lives. Animals suffer the same as humans, so it’s blatant speciesism to use them for experiments over willing…
