Animal Testing: Unethical Or Inhumane?

Why is it socially acceptable to test on animals and not test on humans themselves? People test anything from cosmetics to possibly life changing medicine on sentient beings. We are forcing these poor creatures to put their life on the line for our benefit. If we want to test to see if a certain make up tool or medicine will harm us, humans should be the ones to go through the testing themselves. Animal testing is unethical, inhumane, harmful, and down right disturbing. It is time to stop the torture and put an end to animal testing. The goal is to create a law where it is absolutely illegal to test on animals. According to PETA, 100 million sentient animals are forced to go through testing every year in the United States alone. These animals include Hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, monkeys and even cats and dogs. Jeremy Rifkin, author of A Change of Heart about Animals states, “They feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement, and even love..” (2) The animals that go through the testing usually end up dying after the experiment but if they do not they are used again for another test. The cycle never stops. Not everyone is against animal testing. People claim that animal testing is needed in order to find out if a certain medicine will work for curing deadly human diseases. The Humane Society states, “Animal experiments are part of medical history, but history is where they belong. Compared to today's potential to understand the basis of human disease at cellular and molecular levels, experimenting on live animals seems positively primitive.” With the technology we have now there should be no need for animal testing at
