Whether or not animals should be tested on has been debated since it started almost 150 years ago. Animals should no longer be used for the testing of safety of products for human consumption. Today there are alternative methods to testing the safety of products making animal testing unnecessary. Not only is it unnecessary due to alternative methods, animals have been given protection acts solemly for the purpose of security from this suffering and when experimented on these animals only experience excruciating pain. Another reason animal testing needs to be eliminated is because the test animals are put to is not accurate making humans conduct the real experiment on themselves once consumed. Although sometimes successful testing is done the fact still remains that we now have other methods that are more accurate and by following through with these methods we will be following the protection acts set up for animals as far as testing goes. Technological advances in science has made animals no longer needed for testing. As stated by Dr. Elias Zerhouni, “it’s time we stopped dancing around the problem. … We need to refocus and adapt new methodologies for use in humans to understand disease biology in humans.” (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals/ Dr. Elias Zerhouni).
