Do you have any idea of what animals go though during testing? Each year, more than one hundred million animals are killed (Peta). The term “animal testing” refers to procedures performed on living animals for purposes of research into basic biology and diseases, assessing the effectiveness of new medicinal products, and testing the human health and environmental safety of consumer and industry products such as cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, pharmaceuticals and industrial chemicals. It is sad to think that most animals go through a lot of pain and most of the animals are killed at the end of the experiment (About). Before the deaths of these animals, some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, others are immobilized in restraint devices for hours, some have holes drilled into their skulls, and others have their skin burned off or their spinal cords crushed (Peta). Animal testing is wrong, because it is unreliable, unethical, dangerous, and expensive.
One reason why animal testing is wrong is because it is unreliable. It is proven that using mice and rats to test the safety in humans is only accurate forty three percent of the time (Cruelty). It is also proven that ninety five percent of drugs in human trials despite promising results in animal tests, whether on safety grounds or because they do not work (Cruelty).
