Vivisection, which is derived from the Latin word “vivus” which means alive. It is a type of researches which sets live animals as experimental subjects and use invasive techniques test on them.Vivisection experiments involve the uses of animals for product testing or in education and conduct researches or experiments for corporations, agricultural facilities, and military bases. According to the research more than 100 million animals are killed in the U.S. laboratories each year which does not includes numerous rats, birds, and rabbits etc.[1] Animals are people’s friends, and we do not want those animals to suffer. Hence, vivisection should be prohibited in the lab because of the following reasons. First, vivisection experiment is not as effective as people think. There are plenty of significant drugs that have been discovered without the benefit of animal testing. For example, Quinine, used to treat malaria; ether, used as anesthesia; and of course aspirin were all discovered without harming any animals. Animal testing is flawed basically because the human and animals’ systems are totally different, which is a scientific problem that cannot be fixed. The most noteworthy example is thalidomide which was used as a sedative and prescribed to treat morning sickness in pregnant women in the 1950s. Before it was put to use, thalidomide already passed the animal tests successfully. However, unfortunately, over 10,000 children had birth defects after mothers-to-be used it. Even primate animals which are similar to humans fail to anticipate what would happen in humans. For instance,when scientists test the therapeutic antibody (anti-CD28 monoclonal antibody TGN1412) did not realize that there existed a fatal immune response that was triggered in humans.
