Opening/Attention:
I am a strong believer that there is no reason to include animals during cosmetic testing. It is overdue for Canada to put an official ban on animal testing, as it’s unnecessary animal cruelty and needless suffering. As a personal supporter of cruelty-free and vegan products, I can attest to the fact that using animals in the testing process is completely unnecessary. Not only unnecessary, but it’s unethical and inhumane to just sentence millions of thinking, breathing, feeling animals to be tortured and abused until they have an untimely death. There have been many large scale initiatives to make history in the process of banning animal testing, one huge campaign being Be Cruelty-Free …show more content…
So why not do it for all animals?
Emotion/Story:
There’s no reason or excuse for harming, hurting, or even killing innocent animals just for personal cosmetic purposes. I think PETA states it best in their mandate, “Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way”. Animals cannot stand up for themselves against humans, and that fact alone makes it ultra-important that we take a stand and speak for them. I ask you to think about how many times you’ve washed your hands with Softsoap, or how many of you have it sitting at home by your sink right now. At the general price of $1.97 a bottle, I know it seems like the best choice. But you could spend just $2.00 more for a bottle of Live Clean hand soap – a 100% cruelty-free company that is never tested on animals – and save the lives of thousands of …show more content…
Alternative methods exist and can be used in place of animals, and these alternative methods can also be a cheaper option. Animals and humans are entirely different, so the use of animals doesn’t even provide accuracy, so even if a product passes an animal test, it doesn’t even mean it’s entirely safe. Nearly 95% of animals being used in various experiments are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. A large majority of experiments run on animals are flawed and often don’t produce a concise result, making them a waste of time and lives. Animals suffer the same as humans, so it’s blatant speciesism to use them for experiments over willing
