Animal Testing: Right or Wrong?
“Each year, more than 100 million animals—including mice, rats, frogs, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, monkeys, fish, and birds—are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing” (PETA). Animal testing, also known as animal experimentation or animal research, is the use of live animals for biomedical/psychological studies and the examination of new manufacturing products such as cosmetics and household cleaners. Many people think animal testing is acceptable, while others may think animal testing is downright wrong. What do you think? Countless numbers of animals suffer from pain in laboratories each and every day in order for society to have a new fragrance, another hairspray product, and another treatment for headaches. Getting a new product may be a ball of excitement for some, but people don’t know what really goes down behind the closed lab doors. Animals of all kinds are being tortured, starved, poisoned, and killed. Furthermore, animals should not be used as laboratory experiments because it is extremely cruel and inhumane, it’s unreliable, and it is flat out unnecessary. Imagine if us humans were captured and forced to live in cages for scientists to do research on. Imagine not having the freedom to do anything you wanted to do.
