Animals are used in many aspects of our society today. From food products to search and rescue, the creatures we live with have been integrated into our lives. However, the respect and courtesy to animals (and the help they give) is often quite miniscule, especially with animal testing. Even though the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) was enacted in the 1960s to prevent animal cruelty in laboratories, it still occurs on a regular basis(Susan C. Hanicutt).
First, animals that are experimented on are often subjected to diseases. Every time a cure is created for anything, it needs to be tested to make sure it works and has minimal side effects. What if the cure doesn’t work? In most cases, the animal will either die or slowly waste away.
