A reason people think it is good to use animals for testing is because animal testing has helped create medicine for some diseases. The California Biomedical Research Association said, “The use of animals in research is …show more content…
Some things involved in testing on animals are forced chemical exposure, injections, genetic manipulation, food and water deprivation, infliction of pain, and even surgery. Many of the procedures that are tested on the animals inflict pain and can severely hurt the animals. Some of the animals my suffer due to being restrained without any water or food. Many of the things that the tests are based on is for human use, and some of those products may not be safe for the animals to consume or even be around. Many people feel that it is inhumane to keep the animal restrained and test on them because they are living beings, just like humans are. Some animals may be exposed to many different things at one time and the tests may be very intense. There is also a chance that what is tested on the animal may not even work on humans. Because of this, the animal will have been tested on and it not even work, and some of the medical supplies have been wasted. Also people believe that even with the small percentage of chance that it won’t work, there could be major time setbacks if the product doesn’t work on the humans after being tested on the animals. Some testing might inflict mental pain as well as physical. The Humane Society International says, “Trying to mirror human diseases or toxicity by artificially creating symptoms in mice, dogs or monkeys has major …show more content…
By using Petri Dishes and human cells can produce more accurate results than testing on animals. Since using human cells in the dish, you know the exact reaction of certain things added with the human cells. Microdosing, when you inject a little bit of the product at a time which allows it to be tested safely. Microfluidic chips are “just 2cm wide, and have etched into them a series of tiny chambers, each containing a sample of tissue from different parts of the body.” says Safer Medicines. Microfluidic chips have the drug added to them and the results are transferred to a computer. Human tissue can also be used to study what happens when something is added to them. The tissue is taken from a person, with their permission, and is then studied. Autopsies also have a big impact on finding out how something affects the body, by looking at all the organs. There are several alternatives, although some may take a lot of time and money, many people think it is better to use them instead of animals. People believe that taking the time to find a safer solution to find the cures for diseases, is better than using animals at all. Even though the percentage is low in the difference between humans and some animals, some believe it is still bad to use animals in testing because there are still chances something could go wrong. Although some of these alternatives have not been
