Animal testing should not be legal. According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in US laboratories for a plethora of different types of animal testing. (“Using Animals”) Time and time again companies test on animals whether it be for cosmetics, medicines and even deadly diseases. Using animals as “guinea pigs” is not ethical by any means, and should be illegal everywhere. Not only is it wasting animals’ lives but it is also wasting human lives, which many are not aware of. Animal testing is a problem, and something needs to be done. The only way to stop it once and for all, is making it illegal in the state of law. But thinking a little bit deeper, some might just realize that these things everybody’s hearing just might be untrue. “Most animal experiments are not relevant to human health, they do not contribute meaningfully to medical advances and many are undertaken simply out of curiosity and do not even pretend to hold promise for curing illnesses. The only reason people are under the misconception that animal experiments help humans is because the media, experimenters, universities and lobbying groups exaggerate the potential of animal experiments to lead to new cures and the role they have played in past medical advances” (Berlatsky). These companies are not telling everyone how much harm these poor animals are getting put through on the back of their makeup, shampoo bottles, etc. “Before their deaths, some are forced to inhale toxic fumes, others are immobilized in restraint devices for hours, some have holes drilled into their skulls, and others have their skin burned off or their spinal cords crushed. In addition to the torment of the actual experiments, animals in laboratories are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them—they are confined to barren cages, socially isolated, and psychologically traumatized.
