Animal Testing: Necessary In Today's Society

Animal Testing Animal testing is starting to become one of the big worries in today’s society. While other problems come about every so often, such as abortion, they never tend to last more than several years. In contrast, the realities of animal testing have, reasonably, been a worry for informed animal activists for years, and it will continue to be a worry for many more years to come. Recently animal testing has been catching more public eye attention though. While scientists continue to use animals for testing, more people are realizing that it shouldn’t be done and it is pointless. The reason this is pointless is because scientists are now using in vitro, animal testing takes too long to produce usable data, humans and animals do not …show more content…
Most people tend to think that because animals cannot speak or cannot reason that they have no feelings. This however is false. Writer Peter Singer writes “Nearly all the external signs that lead us to infer pain in other humans can be seen in other species, especially the species most closely related to us--the species of mammals and birds” and this is what most people tend to forget (singer, Animal liberation). While animals may not be able to speak, they are able to whimper, growl, have facial contortions, and have dilated pupils. Also, Koko, the gorilla, has been taught to speak and communicate with humans in sign language. This tells us that animals are able to learn and comprehend just like humans can. Because this all is for medical research to help humans though, no one cares. But if the tables were turned and the experiments were done on humans, we as humans would realize how unjust this is. If our rights are there to protect us because we feel pain and feel what is right and wrong, then the same should be done for …show more content…
For example, some think it is good because when it comes to the lives and wellbeing of humans, the lives of animals become irrelevant. If animal testing has a chance to prevent things such as child dormancy, humans don’t care what is happening to the animals. Another reason people are in favor of animal testing is that researchers claim to be using the safest and most harmless ways to test on the animals and that the testing will work because gene resemblance is so close to humans. While these people may have their opinions, it is irrelevant. More than 85% of animal testing fails and becomes harmful to humans. An example of this is the drug Cioquinol. This drug was said to stop or control diarrhea. Even though it was tested safe on animals, it ended up either killing thousands of humans or leaving them blind. This proves that animals and humans do not have the same genes. Also, people who think animals do not get harmed in this process are wrong. Tests on animals, such as the draize test, cause rabbits to have swelling, irritation, bleeding and blindness in their eyes. Also with this test, the rabbits are restricted with only there head protruding and their eyelids clipped back. There is no known test yet that doesn’t cause an animal pain and suffering. Also after the tests are done and the researchers have their results, the animals are

Animal testing has become one of a number of controversial issues because of the effects that it has on animals. Supporters of animal testing justify these effects because they believe that animal testing is the only way to find new cures for diseases. Research that has been done on this matter has proven it to be an ineffective way of finding cures. Furthermore, the reason why animal testing should not continue is because it leads to animals having psychological problems, dwindling of the number of endangered animals and cures that have been proven on animals do not work on people.…

For most people there are two scenarios that come to mind when they hear animal testing. The first scenario is that scientist are torturing, neglecting and abusing the animals that are being tested on. The other scenario is that scientist are being ethical, take care of the animals and are creating life-saving medicines. This makes the use of animals in experiments a controversial topic; a topic that isn’t quite black and white when argued. There are different types of animal testing like, medical testing and cosmetic testing; one is more ethical than the other.…

Animal testing, although defective, has proven to be beneficial. Animal testing has contributed to medical science in a number of ways. Because of the complexity of the human body, scientists will argue that it is necessary to perform research on living animals. However, because humans and other animals vary significantly, these tests may not always produce accurate results. Although there are alternatives to animal testing, eliminating the usage of animals will slow the progress of medical advancement.…

The testing on animals is a very touchy subject. It makes people wonder whether or not its cruel to advance technology by killing innocent animals. Killing animals for testing has its benefits but it's still inhumane to do that to animals. It can destroy populations of animals if tested often and if every lab has its own supply of animals the populations will drop by extreme numbers. The animals that are tested on often get terrible treatment as the people testing on them know they will soon die.…

Animal testing is among one of the most controversial issues worldwide. Animal testing can lead to many great discoveries in our constant evolving world, but can also endanger the lives of innocent creatures. Through many arguments, animal testing puts the life of animals at risk in order to try to make advancements in the medical, cosmetic, and scientific fields. The first animal testing began in the 17th century on numerous animals to demonstrate blood circulation. Animal testing expanded quickly and in 1876 parliament passed the Cruelty to Animal Acts in Europe.…

Why is it socially acceptable to test on animals and not test on humans themselves? People test anything from cosmetics to possibly life changing medicine on sentient beings. We are forcing these poor creatures to put their life on the line for our benefit. If we want to test to see if a certain make up tool or medicine will harm us, humans should be the ones to go through the testing themselves. Animal testing is unethical, inhumane, harmful, and down right disturbing.…

Animal Testing: Is it the reason that millions of human lives have been cured and saved or is it the unreasonable cause for many animal deaths? Should we stop this kind of testing for the sake of our animals, or should we continue in an effort to find cures for deadly and dangerous diseases? So far, animal research and testing has helped save human lives by finding cures and treatments from diseases such as diabetes, polio, rabies, tetanus, and has helped produce antibiotics to fight infections. However, are we taking advantage of our animal friends and to what extend should animal testing be allowed?…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…

Millions of animals are put through unavailing animal tests each year, and most of them suffer abuse that is senseless because most tests are inaccurate. Peggy Carlson, an animal rights activist and head of the humane society argues “Nearly everything that medicine has learned about what substances cause human cancer and birth defects has come from human clinical and epidemiological studies because animal experiments do not accurately predict what occurs in humans” (161). In other words animals are being used and abused in tests that are not even projecting similar results as they would if humans were to do the test. Scientists say animals are used in testing because they are similar to humans in many ways. The truth is, they are similar to humans in many ways, but we are not exactly identical and also have many differences that affect test results.…

This argument is totally wrong since animal testing often leads to breakthroughs to animals as well. If we didn 't do animal testing trillions of animals would have died already from many unknown diseases. But by doing animals testing we are saving ourselves and the animals. By testing the animals we could acknowledge them and see what diseases they have and offer an antidote to kill the diseases and making the animals live a long fruitful life. We the people have saved endangered species and put them in habitats where they can reproduce successfully.…
