The life expectancy of humans 100 years ago was that nobody lived past the ages of 25 or 50 (Science, medicine and animals pg. 5). Infection and disease killed millions of people in the past and has been rectified because of animal testing. The reason why they do not use humans and perform these experiments on is because of our constitution. It states we are not allowed to torment humans. If something went wrong or it failed to work the human species would die off or get very ill. Animals have helped find a vaccine for polo and they could not have done it without animal research. Research on animals has improved surgical procedures done on humans. American medical associations have observed that “Virtually every advance in medical science in the 20th century, from antibiotics, vaccines and organ transplants have been directly from animal experimentation”( Science, medicine and animals pg. 5 ). It has been a huge accomplishment for transplant to be performed on animals. Without the ability to improve our health has given people a second chance at life by simply giving them an organ. Many don’t know that the animals they are testing on are very healthy; they get most of their animals from people who breed them. Everything in the medical field being used today is from animal testing. Antibiotics were never used 100 years ago, because when they tried to fix the problem it was on the spot for humans. They can now use it as …show more content…

In 2008, a video was released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) that showed severe animal cruelty at Mowmar Farms Hog Confinement, located just outside of Fairmont, Minnesota (Genoways). The video showed employees prodding hogs too crippled to stand with electric prods and beating hogs repeatedly on their backs with metal gate rods (Genoways). Adding to this, the video also revealed the method the workers used to euthanize underweight piglets: a technique called thumping (Genoways). Thumping involves workers taking the piglets by their hind legs and smashing their skulls against the concrete floor. Their bodies would then be put in large bins, where they would be left to die (Genoways).…

Animal research has aided in the advancement of research done in the medical field. Animal research has helped scientists better understand treatment options when it comes to cancer, HIV/AIDS, heart disease/stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, Hepatitis C, birth defects, epilepsy, spinal cord injuries, and cystic fibrosis. Despite the controversy of testing on animals, I do think that testing on animals is beneficial in the advancement in the health of humans. However, it is necessary that within animal research scientists follow strict ethical guidelines making sure that all testing on animals is justified in bettering humans, and that all animals are treated in a humane way. Following are examples of how animal testing has bettered the medical field by helping researchers better understand different diseases and effective treatment options.…

Why Animal Testing Should Be Banned Everyday innocent animals are being forced into labs and tested for human research advancement. Cruelty Free International states how approximately 115 million animals, including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, dogs and monkeys are used in dangerous laboratory experiments every year. In fact, many of the experiments are said to be useless tests, as stated, “The reality is that the majority of animal experiments do not contribute to improving human health, and the value of the role that animal experimentation plays in most medical advances is questionable” (“Animal Testing is Bad Science”). Misconceptions by the media may stretch the idea how animal testing can cure diseases, illnesses etc.. But actually, as emphasized, animal testing is an inefficient way of finding medical advances, making the procedures to be unnecessary and making there be no reason to force animals into labs without a choice, it's blatantly a waste of animals lives.…
