Every year, there are 2.2 million hospitalizations and 106,000 deaths due to the effects of adverse drug reactions. In addition, after animal testing 10,000 birth defects were found in the animals and their offspring worldwide (Minniti 1). During a study in Russia, the Soviet secret service used prisoners to test poisonous substances and to find out if they were fatal or toxic(Frater1). In 1939, twenty-two orphans were used in a psychological experiment to see how half the group responded to being belittled about speech. This resulted in permanent mental damage for some of the children; therefore the scientists of the experiment attempted to cover it up. Due to the fact that scientists and doctors do not want to hurt humans, they use the voiceless animals of the world. Animal used in experiments are unfortunately animals are not always treated with the same respect and caution that humans in trials are. Under government regulations, animals would not be used as experimental toys or used as test products. In fact, in the United kingdom 2.94 million out of 4.12 million experiments are conducted on animals without anesthesia. In total, 100 million animals are experimented on all around the world. (Peta.org) In search of a cure or discovery animals are put through this all kinds of pain and experiments. The human mind can not understand how animals feel or how they think in these situations. Because of this animals are perfect candidates for scientists when they want to test a new possibly fatal experiment.Some may believe that animal testing and poor treatment of animals is worth finding a new cure. In contrast, an many animals lives are in serious jeopardy just to find out if a new drug or surgery will work.
