Xenotransplantation is transplanting cells, tissues or organs from one species to another species. Genetic engineering is very similar and also creates a great deal of pain and suffering for the test subjects. This engineering kills so many animals in the process of trying to create animals with specific traits. Genetic engineering affects primates, cats, dogs, mice, rats, and others. Most of the animals involved lose their life, but if they survive they suffer from extreme abnormalities and other horrible conditions …show more content…
Radial keratotomy is a surgical procedure that is performed to help vision without glasses. This surgical advancement was tested many times on animals, but when researchers thought they had it perfected on rabbits they began to test it on humans. This surgery proved to be dangerous, and it made the first few human test subjects blind. It is still argued that animal testing is still necessary for the use of medication testing, but the facts prove otherwise. Of the 198 new medications released between 1976 and 1985, 102 were either withdrawn from the market or relapsed because of serious side effects the researchers did not expect when testing them on rats and mice. The side effects included lethal dysthymia, heart attacks, kidney failure, seizures, respiratory arrest, liver failure, and stroke. With all of the evidence of the dangers of animal testing, it obviously should not be used to advance medicine (Greek). It is proven and obvious that the best test species for humans is humans. It is impossible to relate the data gathered from animal testing over to how it will affect humans because of the differences in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry (Alternatives in
