Cleaning Up the Labs
“Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any way” (PETA). Every day animals are experimented on in research labs. this is a problem that desperately needs to be fixed. A lot of animal rights advocates believe that all animals should be treated like pets, and that they all have a right to be treated with respect and have a good and healthy life. Animal rights advocates do not understand how people can be cruel to animals and subject them to experimental drugs and keep them in small cages for their whole lives. An estimated 26 million animals in the past year in the US have been used for testing (Animal Testing). Many animal rights groups believe that animal testing is cruel and unnecessary. These must achieve one or more of the “three Rs” in order to be considered alternative methods (Do Something). The “three Rs” include: replaces a procedure that uses animals with a procedure that doesn’t use animals, reduce the number of animals used in a procedure, or refines a procedure to alleviate or minimize potential animal pain. Advocate groups are promoting these alternative methods to research labs. A lot of people are hoping that labs will make the switch and put less animals through pain and danger until there are little to no animals in harm’s way. There are a lot of groups out there like PETA, that are working towards passing all kinds of laws to give animals the rights they think they deserve. These groups have a very strong opinion about how animals should be treated. They believe that research labs should be working towards less animal testing and more alternative methods. Research labs are known to help treat and cure a lot of diseases from animal treatment. But there are so many different ways to find these cures without putting any animals in harm’s way, like the “three
