Many people believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. But would you rather test on humans or animals? Humans have been testing on animals since before 322 BC and has cured over 29 diseases in the past 200 years. Animal testing is the best way to find information that our society needs. Animal testing had contributed to life saving cures and treatments. Animal testing had helped us understand conditions such as brain injury, malaria, childhood leukemia, and more. According to the American Cancer Society, the fight against cancer has seen 24 significant biomedical advances in the past 30 years due to animal testing. Animal testing allows researchers to study a test subject for a whole lifespan. Laboratory mice have an average life span of 2-3 years, giving researchers the opportunity to study a test subject for its whole lifespan. An average rabbit will live about 3 years and guinea pigs live an average life of 5-7 years.

First, humans and rats/mice are both warm blooded, give birth to living young, and both react similarly to infection and disease. 80% of humans genes have identical counterparts as rats’ genes.
