This is due to the fact that primates generally share 98% of the same genetic coding as humans and thus they are chosen for animal testing. Primates that have been living in the wild are captured for animals testing and their numbers are not increasing in any short time. As stated in Georgia Graham(2014) “A total of 1,557 monkeys from China, Vietnam and Mauritius were brought into the UK in 2012 according to Home Office figures released by Norman Baker, the home office minister.” Furthermore, with the increasing need for primates in animal testing, the number of poaching incidents will surely increase. This is because of the lucrative rewards that poachers get from selling these animals. As stated in Joe DeCapua(2013) “an illegally seized chimpanzee is worth about $25,000 in China.” As we can see the price of the apes have given the initiative for the poachers to keep on poaching.
