The usage of cosmetic products between people is increasing rapidly in the modern world. The problem is how do we know the products are not dangerous for humans? Big cosmetic companies around the world such as MAC and Sephora cosmetics are using animals to test their make-up and beauty’s materials. Animal testing is a kind of animal cruelty and abuse because by injecting chemicals into their bodies, their lives are put in danger and most of the animals end up dying. Each year about 100 million animals are used in the United States’ laboratories for biology, medical, and cosmetics testing (U.S Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service). By using animals as testing objects, the cosmetics’ labs are treating these living …show more content…
As it is said in Lush’s website, “The annual 250,000 prize fund was awarded to scientists, campaigners, lobbyists, training specialists and young researchers working to replace animal testing with methods that are both more humane and more effective.” The campaign believes besides working in groups, the individuals can have effective voice in the public mind. It is a source of encouragement and inspire the young minds to put more work toward developments in non-animal testing process. By the new techniques, it is proven that they have superior compare to old usage of animals. In an article written by Pfuhler, S, Fautz, R, all etc. they argue the fact that “The “3D skin model” project aimed to develop and validate a new assay incorporating the use of human reconstructed skin (RS) models with the genotoxicity endpoints, MN and Comet assays. Since the exposure of many compounds is dermal, especially for cosmetics, these models better reflect their in use conditions” ( ). Applying the products on a live cell of human’s skin is much more effective because that cell represents how exactly humans would react to the products. It is a closer model of a person than animals like rats, mice or even chimpanzees that are known to have the same body structure as

This quote explains animal testing perfectly; “Many cosmetic companies test their new products and ingredients by forcing rabbits, hamsters, and mice, among others, to endure horrific practices such as breathing in poisonous fumes or having lethal chemicals poured into their eyes and rubbed into their skin”(Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). Many supporters of animal testing will argue that it can have positive outcomes, however, humanity uses it in vain ways. This makes it especially wrong because humans are treating animals cruelly and inhumanely mostly to look attractive. Continuing on about cosmetic testing on animals: “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions that cosmetic products or ingredients could have in a person” (Natasha Cole, Cruelty Free Cosmetics). The reason to continue these means of testing on animals proves to be no longer relevant because easier and more reliable ways of testing do indeed exist.…

Animal testing is no longer effective in today’s society. Testing has no purpose, it has been said many a time that it is useless and unnecessary. There is a higher chance of flipping a coin and being accurate in a test than actually doing the research and testing on animals. To see if a new product is safe it goes through a whole process where animals are being mistreated for the benefits of humans. Animals in experiments today are bred for the sole purpose of the particular experiment, so once the experiment ends, the animals have no value, and end up getting euthanized, because they are useless to scientists.…

Technology developed, has the potential to offer cosmetic makers the ability to test without animals. The technology uses human skin cells grown in a lab rather than skin areas found on animals to stimulate an allergic response to foreign chemicals. Some of the alternatives is to use ingredients with the the majority of experience and history in products, in light of the fact that they will already be known to be safe and therefore no testing is even required. According to Mark Constantine at the present time, there are hundreds of companies, producing products without a use of animals.…

Even though some animals are needed for medical research for the tests that give us reliable results, cosmetic research is not necessary. By not in this day and age we should know what chemicals people can work with and what chemicals we cannot. We have enough cosmetic products and brands, it is not necessary for cosmetic researchers to go on and test on animals. Animals should have similar rights as people, and we need to learn to share our planet with them.…

After studying multiple views on animal testing I have come to realize my personal view has now changed since the start of my research. Before undergoing heavy study into animal testing I believed that all types of animal testing should be stopped, but now I believe that the idea is very beneficial and should only be done when the rights of the animal are considered. In the coming years, hopefully, more regulations can be passed to ensure that all animal’s lives are protected during experimentation. Although most animals are treated with care and no pain is dealt to them when undergoing testing, it would be a lie if I stated no animals are harmed during the process. Animal testing is extremely useful in developing life-saving drugs and medicine.…
