As a small pet owner, I know how lovable and amazing small animals can be as pets. Their innocent eyes and pure hearts have a way of looking into you and showing you that they love you no matter what, all without uttering a single word. These animals are without fault and without blemishes, and yet each day these animals are being used in animal testing and experimentation. For years these animals have been poked and prodded in the name of science, their lives taken from them so that they may live in packed cages and be cruelly treated for our benefit. They are taken to test the products that humans will use. In recent years, this barbaric action has become outdated with new advances in technology taking the place of the slaughtered …show more content…
Advancements in science and technology have helped to better our world in almost every way imaginable. These advancements have stretched as far as being able to replicate human vital tissues on chips to test how they will react to certain treatment (Torres A.1). In recent times, similar chips have been made to replicate less vital organs, such as the skin of a human, in order to test how the body will react to what is being tested (Torres A.1). Now with the advancements in technology and the availiability of these new chips, testing products has become more of a breeze. These chips replicate the vital organs and vital systems of the human body such as the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, blood-drain barrier and the heart (Torres A.1). Using electrical signals, the scientists can measure the reaction the chip had and its response to the chemicals and medications it has been given (Torres A.1). Caffeine, heart rate medication, and dangerous toxins call all be applied to the cells on the chips and their effects can be measure. Since the cells are able to survive for up to several weeks at a time, the same samples and cells can be used repeatedly for multiple tests and long term results (Torres A.1). These chips are not widely available quite yet. Although they have been used in California, they are still undergoing tests to ensure the chips are accurate and can be reliable (Torres A.1). It is ironic because instead of the animals being tested, the animals are testing the humans. It shows the cages in which the humans are kept in and their faces as they watch the terror they will be next to endure. The human on the table has a clamp around his eye, as that is a common test that is performed on animals, and he is being injected with a chemical or vaccine of some kind. He is restricted of movement which is the most common of cruelties practices on these animals. The faces of the humans in the cages shows the fear they are facing, and makes one think that the animals that are in those cages must feel the same way. Animal testing is unethical and should not be continued. As creatures that feel as humans do, inflicting this type of pain upon them is simply morally and ethically wrong. Some believe that animal testing is a gift to humans.
