Persuasive Essay On How Animal Testing Is Inhumane

Great Essays
Animals all over the globe are sitting in a cage right now, scared, cold and alone waiting for the next experiment to be done to them. They sit in this cage longing for the day that they are able to free, if they survive the experiments or if they are of no longer need to the scientists. Every year there are millions of animals killed in laboratories from the tests and experiments done to them. These poor, defenseless animals are poisoned, shocked, and burned during these tests and are often killed because of this. If these actions were done outside of a laboratory it would be considered animal abuse. It is unfair and cruel that we test on these defenseless animals for the sake of human safety. Animal testing should be stopped because it is inhumane, it’s bad science, and there are different methods of testing.
Humans have been testing and/or experimenting on animals since the BC times. In the article Animal Testing and Medicine, written by Rachel Hajar, M.D. she explains to us the history of medicine and how animal testing has evolved over time. Early Greek Physician-Scientists like Aristotle and Erasistratus have performed experiments on living animals. Many years later, Galen, another Greek Physician who had a major role in medicine history, experimented on many animals to advance the understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology (Hajar 1). Every animal has rights and their own dignity. Just because they are incapable of exercising those rights, doesn’t mean we are allowed to preform tests on them. They do not deserve to be randomly tested or killed for the benefit of the humane race. Humans can’t vindicate to make lives better for themselves by torturing and killing millions of poor, defenseless animals every

Maybe one day technology will have advanced so far as to render animal testing unnecessary, which would be ideal, but that day is simply not today. However we must not be wanton or ruthless in our testing of animals, just as animal test subjects are necessary so are the ethical and moral policies that regulate animal testing. Scientific advancement should never rely on what is blatantly cruel and scientists should always strive to do as little harm or cause as little distress as possible to their test subjects. Animal testing can lead to great advancements in medical technology and it is our job to make sure that we take the comfort and well being of the animals being tested into account. After all, to anthropomorphize for a moment, isn’t that the least we can do for the beings who are helping us treat all the diseases we are susceptible…

There are many alternatives to animal testing and excuses need to stop being made to keep animal testing in business. It may seem like it is the only option, but there are so many new ways to do the exact same test in ways which do not involve animals at all. It is cruel and inhumane to keep animals in small cages and not only physically, but also mentally harm them. Artist Leonardo Da Vinci once said, “The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men.” The time for animals to be treated similarly to humans can be…

Animal testing is not ok for so many reasons. The first I have to say is about the hardship and pain to the animals. Animals feel pain along with humans, so why do we test on them? What if a bunch of giant animals took you from your natural home, nearly starved you, then tested on you with weird equipment in someplace strange? Yeah, pretty awful.…

People, especially scientists, are hurting innocent animals that did no harm to anyone. Animal testing shouldn't be allowed to happen because animals are getting hurt, they are not protected, and animals get mistreated. One reason that animal testing shouldn’t be allowed is because animals are getting hurt. For instance, the Draize eye test involves rabbits having their eyelids clipped open for as long as multiple days so that they don’t blink the product being tested away. Popular cosmetic brands like L'oreal, Lancome, Estee Lauder, and S.C. Johnson are used on animals.…

Animal testing is wrong towards animals for many reasons. If you think about animal testing like animal fighting which is similar because the animals are forced to do stuff they have no consent with. We should find more alternative ways to test stuff than putting animals through pain. In fact there are alternative ways to animal testing that we should use since it is more accurate. The testing on animals is a very touchy subject. It makes people wonder whether or not its cruel to advance technology by killing innocent animals. Killing animals for testing has its benefits but it's still inhumane to do that to animals. It can destroy populations of animals if tested often and if every lab has its own supply of animals the populations will drop by extreme numbers. The animals that are tested on often get terrible treatment as the people testing on them know they will soon die.…

Animal testing is cruel and inhumane. These animals are subjected to forced feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, infliction of burns and wounds to study the healing process and effects and remedies. Among the cruelest experiments is the Draize eye test which evaluates irritation by shampoos and other products to the eyes. During this experiment rabbits are restrained and their eyelids are held open by clips for multiple days which leads to the death of 50% of rabbits used (Scientific American, "Do Cosmetic Companies Still Test on Live Animals?," scientificamerican.com). We also are very different from animals; having different metabolic, anatomical, and cellular differences.…

The animals kept in laboratories for experimentation go through mistreatment and incredible pain for human gain (Bishop and Nolen 92). Animal experimentation began centuries ago around the 1700’s in ancient Rome where many artists and scholars became curious over the human body. Technology was not as advanced as it is today so the alternatives that are present now were not present then. They believed that using the human body as an experiment was wrong and that humans have dominion over the animals. In addition, they also believed that animals were not capable of feeling any…

To imagine these animals sitting and waiting in fear for the next painful procedure to come is pure sickening.
