Observation Essay They say “ A pet is always a great companion to have”. It is believed to be true because they are always there for you. In Los Angeles, there is a lot of stray dogs that are taken to a shelter to give up for adoption, that’s where my curiosity started and I wanted to investigate more about it . An Animal Shelter can also be known as a pound, regardless that’s where a lot of animals whether they are hurt or not are taken care of. When I think about Animal Shelter I think of that commercial on t.v that puts sad music and seeing all the animals sad and neglected by everyone. Stepping into an Animal Shelter can be very heart breaking. The first thing you can hear are dogs whining, barking, and other animals calling for attention …show more content…
I thought it was going to be very exciting since I love animals and they’re always filled with love but it turned out to be the opposite. These animals need a lot of love and attention in order to survive. Josh also shared with me his experience in adopting a dog there. He said it was a small puppy when it first came in that they had found her in an alley and he watched it grow there and nobody would adopt her because she was kind of hyper and most people like calm dogs. So he fell in love with her and he adopted her and he decided to name her ally. I was shocked at the fact that he pretty much saved that puppy from growing up without an owner. I feel like they are heroes for what they do. They try to find homes for these dogs that are just found and they also try to heal them if the dogs are injured. There is a lot of careless people out there that would not do that for animals. I went around the shelter once again and I was sad because all these animals looked so sad there. I wish I could have adopted all of them. They are poor innocent animals and they don’t deserve to be neglected. I learned that the animal shelter isn’t as bad as people make it seem; yea, it is very heartbreaking seeing them there but they try their best to save the animal under any circumstance. They don’t just leave the animal alone. Josh was very attentive and I really appreciated it for giving me a tour. I wanted to go back and see lilah one last time before I left, but instead I decided not to because it was going to be heartbreaking to

When she found out she was shocked, “the reason it was deeded to the veterinary students was that the barn had bats and we were the only ones guaranteed to have a rabies vaccination” (Vogelsang 45). Near the end of the story when Jessica is explaining what happened to their deceased family dog, her young children misunderstand her message that their dog went to Heaven; her son said, “She’s going to Kevin” (Vogelsang 308). This simple statement brings light to the topic of their beloved pet’s passing. I sincerely recommend this memoir to everyone, especially animal lovers. I worked in the biology lab labeling pelts, bones, and animal specimens; by twenty-one, I obtained my bachelor’s degree and strived for my first job out of university. That summer, I joined Humane Society Naples and worked as a veterinary assistant, while also volunteering at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida in wildlife rehabilitation. This is my turning point and reminds me of Claudia at age seven, who wanted to save animals. The most vivid and unforgettable part of my time there was seeing the transformation of the animal’s health and behavior. From the time, they come into the shelter, scared and sometimes in pain, to then being apart of the team to medically assess and treat them, to witness their ability to play with other animals, and then to the joys of adopters coming in looking for their forever pet, is…

Due to the large capacity of commercial dog-breeding operations, there are more pets offered than customers desire. Stray animals come in all different shapes and sizes, and any breed could struggle mentally through this disastrous environment. Veterinarians and animal shelters have to make room for new incoming pets, and have no choice but to put down pets that are not claimed by an owner for a restricted time period.…
