Oscar served as Brown's eyes, and he was a constant companion to him. When the 11-year-old German shepherd helped Brown, 39, across Eighth Street close to Airport Avenue, Brown heard the traffic approaching when he started to run. According to the police report, the van hit both Oscar and Brown, but Brown had to be rushed to the hospital in Marshfield. When the incident occurred, however, Oscar fled from the scene.
