Animal Science Personal Statement

Improved Essays
I am interested in pursuing Animal Science because animals have always been a big part of my life; I grew up with my grandfather, who had a farm away from home that he tended to every day. Once a week, when I tagged along, he would wake me at 8am sharp and we would head to the farm in his truck. My primary job was to help look after the animals; I cleaned the chicken coops, fed the pigs, brought the cows hay. This generated my passion for animals; the more I cared for them, the more they seemed to trust me, which was a gratifying feeling. My love for animals did not end when my time at the farm did. I adopted my first dog, who quickly became my best friend and the first of many loving pets. Each of my dogs have been like family and helped …show more content…
I have a unique perspective that I have always embraced because I have my own special way of doing things. For example, I can usually be found wearing a jacket no matter the weather. This is because when I have deep thinking to do, I cover my head or face in some way since I have found that a different physical perspective helps thought flow better and that this separation from the situation allows a sort of outside viewpoint. I also prefer to do my homework in a chaotic setting. I listen to music or watch TV because I like collaborative environments and the noise gives me the creative energy I need. As a person who does what might be considered out of the ordinary sometimes, I have always made sure to encourage other people to express themselves in their own way, whether it be through their words or the way they dress or something they create. I think NC State’s campus diversity would benefit from someone like myself who is firm enough in who she is to encourage other people to see that their uniqueness is their greatest asset. I have been “weird” my whole life; I know what it is like to overcome the fear of being myself. I can help people embrace their quirks because those quirks are the only things that set people apart from others and make us all

In “Under The Snow” John Mcphee expresses the connection he has created with the bear cubs in his care. He even compared them to his own kids “When my third daughter was an infant, I could place her against my shoulder and she would stick there like velvet... The first cub I placed on my shoulder stayed there like a piece of velvet”( ). Mcphee continued to describe what his job working with the cubs entails. Taking care of abandoned cubs in teams to help them through the winter and then placing them with mothers that are willing to take care of them. I have always harbored a love and curiosity about animals.…

I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. What I would like to contribute to NC State's diversity are my own set of views and perspectives.…

As I learned about these different animals I was able to share my knowledge with the public and the importance of animals and their conservation. The work was hard, but the bonds with the animals was worth going home covered in dirt and sweat. I loved educating the public and caring for animals and treating those that fell ill. So yes, despite smelling like a zebra’s rear end, I wanted to be a…

Coming from a high school with almost 3900+ students, accepting diversity has become almost second nature for me. Because of the sheer amount of people that attend Adlai. E Stevenson High School and the gracious 4 years that I get, it is not a matter of “if” I will meet someone, but rather “when”. The staggering variety present in this amazing institution has provoked “the past me”, a timid freshman, to blossom into an assertive rising senior, who is not afraid to walk up to the captain of the football team and initiate a friendly conversation. I’ve learned, starting from my freshman year, to comfortably mingle with personalities, which I would not have touched in middle school; I’ve learned that the key to success is to not only accumulate,…

Global Matters Most people go through life trying to blend in. Just like a school of tuna, people stay in the center of a group for their safety because they are less likely to be targeted by their predators. This way of living is great if you want to scrape by in life; however it lacks uniqueness. People who just blend in life often miss out on the best parts of it, which is why I prefer to live my life like a mantis shrimp.…

At some point of my life, I began to believe that I was an ordinary kid. It’s easy to feel beyond the ordinary when most of the people in my high school population can be very similar. Whether its race, family background or parents’ annual income, the students in Sharpstown High School don’t really know diversity. I didn’t know what diversity was. Things changed once I decided to be a part of a summer opportunity like Young Owls Leadership Program at Rice University, attending a college tour by HISD Emerge and participating in Youth About Business at Columbia University.…

Growing up in a dysfunctional family from alcoholism, fighting, and mental illness one thing that has comforted me throughout my life is my love for animals. At the age of four I was introduced to my first kitten named Patches. When I was a having a hard time coping with things in my environment my feline was always there for me as he never got mad at me, listened to my feelings, and just wanted my unconditional love. Soon my love for animals took a turn and I remember having twelve cats as they were all provided with more than the basics for life of food, water, shelter, and love with an acre and a quarter of land for their lurking and mouse hunting pleasures. However, when I turned eight years old that world that I knew unraveled through my eyes as we had to sell the property that we lived on because my grandparents passed away and it was their estate.…
