Since I was a little kid I have always been involved with animals. I convinced my parents to get our first puppy, caught snakes and tadpoles and I had many different kinds of pets. By middle school I was sure I wanted to go into the field of animal science considering my love for animals and my love of biology. Despite all my other options, I followed my calling to Small Animal Science. While in the program I was exposed to a lot of different situations, and I overcame my fear of blood. Also, I have learned the many aspects of animal science including ethics, anatomy, clinical situations, good husbandry practices, biology, nutrition and hands on experiences. I will also be partaking in the TASK program later my senior year where I will be interning at a veterinarian's office for 3 months in place of going to my major. I am also an active member of Bristol Aggie’s Gilbert chapter of National Honors Society, and a retired member of the student council.
I have also been gaining experience in my field after school. I have worked at a reptile store caring for reptiles, I have done small internships at veterinary clinics, and I currently work as a student worker at my school. I found time at the veterinary offices very fun and educational. I was able to take my knowledge from my major and see it applied to a hands on situation. As a student worker I clean animal cages, give them proper nutrition and practice adequate sanitary techniques.
