In the world today, people cannot do without animals because they have become an essential part of human existence to both vegetarians and meat eaters. Some animals serve as pet, and some serve as food, and others are used for sports and laboratory experiments. Although some animal activist advocates for animal rights, there are limits to that right because animals cannot be equal with human. They don’t have the intellectual ability that humans have to take responsibilities and control what happens around them. These animals are important in the society and the need to treat them with respect is paramount. Animals used as food should be treated and killed humanely; they should not be allowed to go through pains or any form of ill-treatment. They sever as companion, security, medical discovery, prevention and cure of diseases, and have the necessary nutrients that help in the development of nails and hair in human. Those used as food animals should be slaughtered humanely and not allowed to go through pains or any form of ill-treatment. Those that serve as pets should be treated well.
Michael Pollan in his article “An Animal’s Place” explained that it is not bad to eat animals but they should be treated with respect prior to the time they will be slaughtered. “When we eat animals, we eat them with the consciousness, ceremony and respect they deserve” (377).
Animals are essential to human existence; therefore people should care about animal welfare rather than animal rights.…
