Alessandra Potenza, a writer for New York Times Upfront magazine, sheds light onto the seriousness of Poachers. Poachers, also known as “Trophy Hunters”, are causing the endangered species problem to become worse, specifically African wildlife. Every year 600 lions are killed by Trophy Hunters (column in the middle of pg. 11). An example of this happening is with Cecil (a lion, also a popular tourist attraction) didn’t attack the Trophy Hunters when they shot him with a crossbow but instead ran away; the Trophy Hunters tracked him down and killed 2 days later. If I could stop poachers so that the elephants and rhinos don’t become extinct then I would try to track the poachers down at the source and arrest or kill them. There are three ways that I think that I can stop the extinction of elephants and rhinos from happening is I can, put SATcoms on the elephants and rhinos, make the horns cheaper and tusks cheaper, and make better devices that can track poachers down. Poaching is a terrible way to make money because not alone is it illegal but it also kills innocent animals, and they must be stopped. The first way that I would stop these poachers is; I would make the rhino horns and elephant tusks cheaper. I think that this is an excellent way to stop poachers from poaching.…

    Elephant Poaching Theory

There has not been much research published on this theory as a majority of conservation biologists do not believe that it has any merit as a solution to the poaching epidemic, which poses an immediate scientific roadblock to any researcher who would see any potential in the theory. Although their opinions should be considered because this is what they study, there has been a surprisingly stringent closed-mindedness when it comes to even considering the theory. If innovative ideas are not encouraged, then the elephants are doomed to suffer as ineffective and half-hearted solutions are implemented. Even journalists seem tinted by these intolerant scientists who condemn the theory without actually looking into the multiple lenses through which this complex issue must be observed. Jared Goyette (2015), one of journalists to look into the potential of ectoparasiticides in…
