Should Animal Testing Be Illegal Essay

Animal Testing Should Be Illegal Animal testing has been debated on for several years. The question people seem to be asking about the subject is: is it science or cruelty? Some tend to believe that in order to use safe cosmetics and skin care, animals should be tested on, while, I, on the other hand, believe that animals should not be used to experiment if products are harmful for human usage. There are several alternatives to avoid putting innocent animals in harm. Unfortunately, many different trials of tests are used on several different types of animals in the world today. Animal testing should be illegal all over the world to eliminate the cruel behavior that is inflicted on helpless animals. In the United States, an estimated 26 million …show more content…
Animal testing has been considered more expensive than alternative methods of testing. According to statistics “over $7.3 million of taxpayer’s was spent of studies involving animals in 2016” (“Should Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing”). There are several cosmetic companies that use animals to test if their products are safe. Some companies that test are: Maybelline, CoverGirl, Aussie, Pantene, Dial, Dove, Coach Fragrances, and Michael Kors Fragrances (“Companies That Test On Animals in 2017”). Although there are several companies that partake in this cruel experimentation on animals, there are several alternatives to avoid animal testing. Unfortunately there are numerous cosmetic companies that use animals to test safeness, some companies have sought alternatives to not use animals. The usage of natural ingredients that have a long history of “safe human usage” are used in their products (Lone Star College). Computers are also used in some tests to simulate and estimate the potential damage of a substance. Medical breakthroughs have still been made without the use of animals. There is no evidence that animal experiments were essential in major medical advances. Deadly substances do not have to be used on defenseless …show more content…
Animals’ rights are violated when they are used in research because they are not given a choice not to participate (Lone Star College). People seem to have the idea that animal testing is acceptable because animals are below humans. The Animal Welfare Act has not succeeded in preventing horrific cases of animal abuse in research labs. AWA violations at the New Iberia Research Center in Louisiana included maltreatment of primates, which eventually lead to a lawsuit against Shin Nippon Biomedical Labs for the death of 38 primates. (“Should Animals Be Used for Scientific or Commercial Testing”). Testing on animals also defies some religious traditions. Proverbs 12:10 states, “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” I believe this verse is saying that we should be merciful to animals, so we should not see them suffering by experimenting on

Testing cosmetics on animals is a very controversial issue that has grown over the past years. I believe that cosmetic animal testing is wrong and should be banned because it is cruel, inaccurate, not very reliable, and has been proven to be unnecessary. Approximately 200,000 animals will suffer and die every year for cosmetics around the world. We as a whole have all decided that this is not necessary which is why we stopped making testing on animal cosmetics something that had to be done. Companies still continue to do it.…

People, especially scientists, are hurting innocent animals that did no harm to anyone. Animal testing shouldn't be allowed to happen because animals are getting hurt, they are not protected, and animals get mistreated. One reason that animal testing shouldn’t be allowed is because animals are getting hurt. For instance, the Draize eye test involves rabbits having their eyelids clipped open for as long as multiple days so that they don’t blink the product being tested away. Popular cosmetic brands like L'oreal, Lancome, Estee Lauder, and S.C. Johnson are used on animals.…

Some people believe it is okay to use animals as their test subjects, while others have been trying to convince people that there are alternatives to using animals that will work just as well. “It’s not testing cosmetics. It’s trying to save my life” (Kopp and Camosy 48) said Eileen Youtie who is fighting cancer. Animal Testing in the United States Every day animals are being used for scientific research either leaving them mutated or dead. Imagine your dog being taken into the lab for various cruel experiments that lasts for weeks. After being tested on multiple times your dog can’t take it anymore and ends up dying. Does that seem right for any animal to go through pain, and potentially risk their lives for research? “Each year in the United States an estimated 20-70 million animals—from cats, dogs, rabbits, rats, and mice suffer and end up dying in the name of research” (Congress).…

The testing of animals is overall is bad ethics and poor science. In a booklet by Peta, they explain the difference between the use of animals verses if humans would be used, how the animal is in pain, examples of cruelty displayed, research conducted, non animal methods, and a conclusion to what you can do to help the cause. This pamphlet explains that the role animals play in this conducted research is not their choice. Animals should not be put into pointless suffering to test a product for a human. I think animal testing is bad science because there are alternative ways to test products without risking the suffering of animals; in addition, animals cannot speak for themselves and therefore should not be put through experiments to test the safety and effectiveness of products.…

It is unacceptable behaviour from people in our modern world today. Even though some animals are needed for medical research for the tests that give us reliable results, cosmetic research is not necessary. By not in this day and age we should know what chemicals people can work with and what chemicals we cannot. We have enough cosmetic products and brands, it is not necessary for cosmetic researchers to go on and test on animals. Animals should have similar rights as people, and we need to learn to share our planet with them.…

Science has developed so much more as animal testing has been used for quite a few centuries. They are many electronic ways to test for medical and cosmetic products that need to be put through tests. Some other alternatives that used that aren’t electronic many people will claim that they are because they are from pieces of animals like eyes from chickens but these mainly come from slaughter houses. Some companies will test on humans where it obviously won’t involve harsh chemicals being poured all over them they will test beauty products for side effects and medically they might be given a pill to “guinea pig” the drug for their illness. In conclusion animal testing should be banned completely because as stated above it is well outdated scientifically, they may pass the tests but they fail most things in humans, it makes everyone feel good, the majority wants it banned, the biggest producers have banned it completely, it is more expensive to run that the alternatives, they hardly share the same diseases and illnesses…
