Animal Oppression: The Archibuld Rultiedge

Decent Essays
My piece I have chosen for the Archibuld Rultiedge embodies my perspective of animal oppression caused by the hands/influences of humans. Being a supporter of animal and human rights, I deeply dug within my self to capture the emotions of the animal (lion), while including symbolic representations that tie with my over all message. The image of hands represent power/strength- capabilities of man. In the picture, depicts the violence and oppression of the lion; a animal of strength and dignity of the animal kingdom. As you can see the lion is being taken down by the items of man that are used to control or oppress another/thing, this represents the power and balance stripped by humans for their own greed and selfish intentions. Their messages are both similar as they both serve as a caution against tyranny and as a caution for not speaking up against tyranny. The method in delivering these messages are both similar as they both have a character that did nothing to speak up against tyranny. Niemoller’s poem had a narrator that said, I didn't speak up because I wasn’t a Communists, a Jew, a Catholic, etc. The narrator also said there was no one left to speak up by the time they came for him. George Orwell’s Animal Farm had a character named Benjamin, who was more educated than the rest of the animals due to his ability to read.…

My assigned artwork, The Assyrian Lion Hunt Reliefs expresses a desire for power, permanence and a need to find meaning in the world. The artwork illustrates the Assyrians being led by a king, and as we all know, the kings are the most powerful in a monarchy. The artwork also illustrates the lions being held captive in cages, only released to fight another lion in the ring, showing which lion is the most powerful, almost done as in the gladiators times. The way the artwork shows how to find meaning in the world, was showing the survival of the fetus, I believe. The strong will survive.…

Standing majestically with a gaze protruding from a body of “white limestone and alabaster…” (MET), the Human-headed winged lion measures up to 10 feet and 3 ½ inches in height. Also referred to as the Lamassu, the sculpture is adorned with a “horned crown” that represents a spiritual holiness. Despite the crown’s intention to convey a state of “divinity”, it is in my observation to point out how outwardly phallic the top of the Lamassu head appears. It may be a vague symbol of masculine power and force. Beneath the crown is the head of a human male, although Lamassu is often portrayed as “protective deity, who is usually female” (Livius).…

It is no secret that when you put two vastly different people together, things will not run smoothly; there will be conflict, some compromise, and at the end one will come out being more successful than the other when it comes to getting what they want. This is exactly what happened when the Europeans tried to coexist with the Native Americans in the 1600s. Not only did the Europeans and Native Americans have different views on the environment, ownership of property, and warfare; the Europeans view of the Native Americans changed from one person to another. The Native Americans believed in animalism; the belief that everything has a spirit, including trees, rocks, and all animals.…

The animal rights movement declares that animals have the same right to life and protection from suffering, as well as any other creature that can feel pain. Doctor of Philosophy, Tom Regan, justifies animal rights from the standpoint of logic. In his article “The Radical Egalitarian Case for Animal Rights”, the author takes a firm stance on this issue and claims that almost all human relationships with animals have the exploitative nature. At the same time, animals have the right to meet the needs and the implementation of their natural purposes. Tom Regan 's argument can be formulated as follows non-human animals have an equal right to respect and treatment for them, which means that hurting them or using as a raw material or a kind of resource…

In the aspects of picture elements, a positive statement is created by the gold surface. The gold surface attracts and reflects the light making the animals to appear real. The determining factors in this painting are the density of gold lines as they give the two lions the needed bulk. Besides, the gold spirals are necessary as they capture the beasts’ tails and body linking them to an imaginary world in the unreal environment. A lot of exaggerations and simplification have been on the painting including the size, accuracy and the intensity of the color used; however, these are the decisive elements in carrying the insightful message.…

Kant’s argument regarding animals and their rights, is based on rationality. This is because Kant analyses the way in which animals work and points out the one thing that distinguishes humans from animals. This one thing is rationalism, as humans have the ability to use reason, unlike animals. Therefore Kant decides that animals are not conscious beings, hence cannot be held responsible for their actions, whereas humans can be, animals are simply a means to an end for humans. However, this does not mean we should treat animals in a different way to humans, as Kant concludes that although we have no direct obligations to animals themselves, we have indirect duties to humans through our treatment to animals.…

The article “The Moral Status of Animals” examines how humans perceive themselves as having moral status, while at the same time they also justify that non-humans obtain no moral status. Lori Gruen who is the author of this article states that these people often suggest that animals cannot be harmed in a moral sense like humans. But membership to a specific species does not justify the moral claim made by those who belong to the Homo sapiens species. Species membership does not explain why animals are considered to have no moral status. There are distinguishable characteristics that come along with Homo sapiens, but they do not condone morality.…

I do not understand why religious people believe that animal testing is right because the bible allows for human domination over animals; mistreating and torturing animals is cruel. Either ways, banning animal research is not going to hurt or affect people's religion beliefs. Millions of animals’ lives could be saved if animal testing is banned. I suggest more people should watch the videos on PETA’s website and any animal research videos on YouTube to see all the torture and pain these animals go through. Many of these videos are very graphic and sad to watch because those against animal testing want to show what really happens in these laboratories.…

In my opinion, I am not like animals keeping in captivity for any reason because they are also living things like us. Animals kept in captivity are like a good family outing to some people but for others, it is like an animal is a cell of prison. The discussion of whether or not animals should be held in captivity is one that will not stop. The discussions go both ways.…
