Analysis of Animal House, the Wizard of Oz, and The Curse of Chucky
The manifest functions refer to those expected consequences in a film while the latent functions are those that are unintended or recognized in a piece of film. Often in films, we realize that the author or the performers have a certain intention. However, apart from being able to implement the intended message and pass it across to the audience, there is the unintended message where the artiste is an audience too. He/she did not expect it to happen or did not intend to put that message across. Curse of Chucky
In the movie curse of Chucky, Chucky is a doll that perpetrates murder in every household she is brought to. At the end of the film, we see Tiffany kill the police officer

However, the film features acts of deceit within the system especially where Wormer organizes a Kangaroo court in order to dismiss Delta’s chatter. College life is also portrayed as care-free as we see students organize what they refer to as the death mobile. We also realize that the students are involved in a conspiracy where the Omegas plant fake sets of answers for the deltas to discover. This scheme is aimed at developing a plan for them to be expelled.
In the film The Wizard of Oz, the film is intended to be amusing and entertaining at the same time. It is meant to create amusement across all ages. With then heights in suspense and uncertainty, the director manages to create a high level of suspense that keeps the viewer amused at the witchcraft and its abilities. However, we realize that despite being entertaining and amusing at the same time. It features violence especially where Dorothy is hit and knocked out by the storm. The movie also shows strong elements of sexual relationships leading to an affair with a minor. It also shows aspects of recklessness when they damage Flounder’s borrowed car and leave the girls behind as they flee. We also realize that violence is perpetrated heavily especially where Marmalard lures Otter into a hotel and beat him
