Animal Farm Snowball Character Analysis

There are so many shady and loveable characters in the book “Animal Farm”. One of the animals that is the most similar and has more human like qualities would be Snowball. Snowball is a hero, who spoke well and fast, and was more creative than the other animals. Snowball is a born leader, since he spoke so well that you could not help but listen. “At the Meetings Snowball often won over the majority by his brilliant speeches” (Orwell 35). Having good speech helps win over everybody, it’s a universal quality that everybody should have. Many great speakers have followers because they speak so well and put everything into perspective. “ The pellets scored bloody streaks along Snowball’s back,... without halting for an instant, Snowball flung his fifteen stones against Jones's legs” (31). Even though Snowball was injured, he still fought through it. The action is similar to a human because sometimes we get injured, but were so worked up in everything that we don’t even care about what happened to us. Snowball was a hero not only for his action, but he ended the battle. His action sent Jones and the few left of his crew back out and most were injured. Snowball’s action got him a medal and he gained even more respect from the animals for doing it. Another thing is Snowball helped set up the animals to prepare for the battle, yes he didn’t set up everything himself but he still pitched in. He helped which is what the meaning of leadership is. Towards the end of the novel, Napoleon got all the animals to hate Snowball and turn against him. Although he did that, Snowball will still remain the most heroic and caring, some of his actions are a little petty but it happens to the best of us. He is a clever boar who went through so much and was a first-class hero, a quick speaker and a very inventive
