What Qualities Make A Good Leader The qualities of being a good leader often tend to vary in what people want from a leader. A leader is commonly known for being bright, being compassionate towards others, and being able to limit their power. In the novel, “ Animal Farm” by George Orwell, the pigs are chosen to be leaders because they are more clever. Really they are deceiving. The pigs have no true characteristics needed to be a good leader. In “Animal Farm”, the pigs are elected because no other animal on the farm acquire the intelligence they have. “The work of teaching and organising the others fell naturally upon the pigs, who were generally recognised as being the cleverest of the animals”

By influencing the young ones and teaching them the “right way to live” , he’s able to make them obey him and want to live his way. ( Orwell 113). He’s manipulating the normal way the young animals would think for his own benefit. Napoleon later comes to the election of the windmill where Snowball is and makes the, now big, dogs chase him away. Then after the dogs start to wag their tails the way they used to to Mr. Jones. This is showing the dog’s loyalty to Napoleon. Having beliefs and having other people who support you and being able to influence them is a big part of being a good leader (2KnowMyself). A vision is something a good leader always has, and in most cases people think that these visions are good. They believe that it will bring benefit to them or bring good things in the near future. Napoleon had a vision of making the farm great for the other animals which he didn’t do. The pigs got the better end of the stick anyways. Napoleon knew what he wanted and he knew what he needed to make it work. Being a good leader means being able to limit yourself and the power you have. “ There is, however, a major nuance that some men with power forget. This slip of the mind - or momentary lapse of judgement - can cause them to lose their positions and some of their stature altogether” ( Askmen). When incontrol, sometimes people often forget of the power they hold …show more content…
They use propaganda and the insensibility of the other animals to make everyone believe that they are right for the job and any idea that they have is the right idea. Intelligence is definitely their strongest aspect because they lack the ability to delegate, control their power, and lack honesty and empathy, which makes a good leader. The pigs, especially Napoleon wants what is best and foremost better for the pigs, he just wants the other animals to hand it to them. He works them hard everyday, non-stop, with minimum food and yet Napoleon is never seen doing anything. He wanted to make the farm better for the animals but got caught in the allure of power and corrupted. Napoleon did not know how to not be entrenched in his own power, just like the other pigs, and that is what made them bad

The pig in charge, Napoleon, used propaganda very often. Napoleon would often "steal" from the other animals. He would reply to the other animals, through a pig named Squealer, with persuasive speeches. An example from the book is when the pigs took the apples and the milk, Napoleon, and Snowball at the time, had Squealer tell the other animals that the milk and apples are vital for the pigs and if they don't get them then Jones will come back. Since no one wanted Jones to come back they were okay with it.…

In reference to the book, “If Comrade Napoleon says it, it must be right,” shows that the reader the credibility of Napoleon if this is what the animals respond to when Napoleon demands them. Napoleon’s use of tyranny ruining Snowball’s reputation is overlooked because of his credibility. When Napoleon goes around the farm bossing all the animals around and making himself look more important the rest of them, they feel like they have to listen and follow…

I can support this inference with multiple text details. First of all the pigs force the other animals to work for them, while they themselves do nothing. The pigs also lie to the other animals at almost all times, only to benefit themselves. They live like kings, while the other animals barely survive in stalls with minimal amounts of food. At the end of the book the pigs craft the ultimate rule “ All animals are equal but some animals are MORE equal”…

Napoleons dream of becoming a leader had become a reality as he had gained full control and had become a dictator. This is proven when the novella states “they had come to a time where no animal had dared to speak their mind, when fierce growling dogs roamed everywhere,” (Pg64) Napoleons rule had become violent as the animals were too afraid to do anything after “they had to watch fellow comrades get torn to pieces.” (Pg64) Napoleons use of his dogs insures that no animals shall dare defy him destroying there once loved freedom and replacing it with torture, creating a life that was worse than living under the autocracy of the humans. It is clearly shown in this novella that the pigs are easily manipulated as they are naïve to believe the pigs want the best for them, this is shown through the use of dramatic irony. Napoleon more destroys the freedom vowed by Old Major at the start of the revolution as he forces the animals to work and live and be treated as slaves proving Napoleon to be corrupt than the humans as the animals were only working for the better interest of the pigs and for the benefit of the pigs not themselves as they thought that was what they were doing.…

The pigs automatically assume leadership, but having superior knowledge does not necessarily make one a great leader. Napoleon is a prime example of a leader corrupted by absolute power. It ran: “No animal shall kill any other animal WITHOUT CAUSE.””. The animals thought that the last two words had slipped their memories when really they were never there until this contractually happened. With having animals that think they are better than one another calls for animalism to fail. You can’t have animals in charge. Napoleon was in charge and if you didn’t do what he directed for chores or jobs to do then you would die.…
