When an idea is romanticized by a community, it is difficult to determine where the original idea ends and others begin and can quickly morph into a corrupted system. In George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm, the animals put blind faith into Animalism making it easier for the pigs to corrupt the system. This is achieved through societal pressure, fear of men, and propaganda. Societal pressure plays a key role in the corruption of Animalism as it is used multiple times to control the other animals.…

To begin with, the first sighting of the lack of education the animals posses is when Napoleon starts to control them. The animals were so absent minded to realize that Napoleon was building a pyramid, and placing everyone below him. For example, in the novel, it states “Napoleon denounced such ideas as contrary to the spirit of Animalism. The true happiness he said , lay in hard work and living frugally,” (Chapter 10, Pg 107). With this action taking place, it shows that Napoleon took advantage of the dictatorship and used it to his own well being instead of properly leading them.…

Orwell illustrates that Mr. Jones's corruption and haughtiness results in the animals' anger and hostility. This irritation is built upon Jones's evil and opportunist character who sells his animals and their products -as Major has said- "to bring in money for [him] and his men" (Orwell 8). Furthermore, Jones is neglecting his farm and "[has] taken to drinking more than was good for him" (Orwell 18), and the worst thing is that he has kept his animals without food which fuels their anger and leads to the beginning of a new age and the end of Jones's ruling. So the animals have been very furious that everything has been uncontrollable.…

The animals and the events in Orwell’s Animal Farm represent the events transpiring up to the Russian Revolution. In HtRLLaP, Foster states that anything can be a symbol as long as it has more than one meaning, insinuating that Orwell’s book could also have symbols in them; the pig, for example, could represent the ones in power like Napoleon to Joseph Stalin. Conceit, greed, corrupt— those are the characteristic that Stalin had and those are also the attributes of Napoleon. Orwell wrote animal farm as an animal’s story to depict what was happening in the real world using the pigs, horse, sheep, etc. Orwell uses the animals to symbolize and depict the events occurring in real life, showing how those who are strong manipulate the weak.…

Propaganda can be found throughout Animal Farm in various ways such as instating fear, instating false information or false leads, and glorifying goals/objects. Propaganda is what politicians and companies use to build support for them or a campaign. A type of propaganda they use is to create fear by presenting a disastrous situation that can be avoided with a certain behavior. Two other types of propaganda in the essay are glittering generalities, which is a generally accepted virtue is usually employed to stir up favorable emotions, and logical fallacies, which is drawing a conclusion from one or more established premises. From the rousing song, “Beasts of England" to the commandments and subsequent changing of them by Napoleon, the main source of power throughout the novel results from language and the use of rhetoric. Without language and the power of words in Animal Farm, the rebellion never would have taken place and certainly the end result of Napoleon’s complete takeover would never have happened. Through the impressive rhetorical and propaganda skills of Squealer and the skillful manipulation of meaning by other characters, reality is shaped by words—for better or for worse. By demonstrating how easily swayed the animals of the farm are by a powerful speech or strong words, Orwell is demonstrating something via a fable about the human vulnerability to…

The human endeavor is riddled with those lusting for power and a long lasting influence. It is evident in the nature of previous societies that when a certain person or group of people is presented an opportunity, they will seize it. A prime example of this ideology is the rise and fall of Soviet Russia. George Orwell uses Animal Farm to show this through the self-interest of Napoleon and the pigs. In Animal Farm, Orwell portrays how those given ample opportunity will undermine others to become superior, through the constantly changing Commandments, the glorifying of Napoleon, and providing a common enemy for the farm.…

“All animals are equal.” (Orwell) This statement is certainly applicable to human society, and is the basis for some peoples ideals, but in George Orwell’s Animal Farm it sums up the entire book completely in an ironic way. Communism, while innocent and appealing in thought, was proven in Russia during the 1900’s to be damaging and easily corruptible in practice. Pure communism is the sharing of wealth and abolishment of private property, where everyone works to provide for the state, and receives only enough to sustain life.…
