Improved Essays
I will be comparing Animal Farm by George Orwell and Lord Of The Flies by William Golding. In a Lord Of The Flies, young boys get stranded on a island after their plane crashes. After the plane crashed the boys try to make life livable on the island, but two boys Ralph and Jack fight over who gets to be the leader of the island. Eventually Ralph and Jack go head to head about who gets to be leader, and Jack wins because all of the younger boys go to his side. In Animal Farm, Mr. Jones the owner of the animals is always drunk and forgets to feed his animals so the animals chase him off of his own farm. After Mr. Jones is chased off, the animals try to do all the work on the farm like tending to the crops. Two pigs become the leaders after …show more content…
Ralph and Snowball are both overthrown by someone who is lower than them and they are both selfishly motivated. Both are in danger of losing their lives because of their actions. Ralph and Snowball both have one enemy which are Jack and Napoleon. Both believe in organization and order. For example, Snowball organizes the other animals into animal committees and Ralph has the boys building shelters, or tending to the fire. Both believe in working toward goals. Both characters try to address goals constantly. For example Ralph always talks about the fire and how important it is to keep it going. Both believe in working in co-operation with others. Ralph always works with Simon and the other boys who will help. Snowball works with the other animals like Boxer on the windmill. Ralph and Snowball are different in some ways because Snowball is a pig and Ralph is a human being. Ralph is also much more intelligent than Snowball because Ralph is a human not an animal. Snowball wants a utopian, he wants everything to be perfect and ideal for everyone. Ralph is just trying to keep everybody alive and civilized with each other on the …show more content…
In Animal Farm, Snowball and Napoleon were fighting against each other to be the leader of the farm. In Lord of the Flies, Ralph and Jack are both fighting to be leader of the island and make choices and rules for everyone. In both books, the power struggle stops by when one of the characters were driven out or kicked out by the other. In Animal Farm when Napoleon drove out Snowball and in Lord of the Files Jack drove out Ralph from being leader. I think Ralph likes the feeling of being the leader and in control, but not as much as Jack and Jack is more rude and more aggressive than Ralph so that is probably why had had so much power over Ralph also Jack had all of the boys on his side. Both Jack and Napoleon have similar skills and attitudes and have their own little group to support them, Jack got support from all the boys except Ralph and Piggy. Napoleon got support from most of the animals like Squealer, Boxer, and the puppies/ dogs. Napoleon and Jack use their power over their group to kill, Jack kills pigs and Napoleon kills other animals on the farm. By the end of both books, Napoleon and his pigs seem to change into humans and Jack and his boys changed into savages. While Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies have one theme in common, they have a lot more themes not in common. For example, in Animal Farm one of the themes is lying and deceiving, the animals all lie and deceive

He is perfidious— he uses violence to intimidate the boys into doing what he wants; he is not a true leader. On the other hand, Ralph is well mannered and civil, while still taking the role of an authoritative figure. He is not intimidating, but rather leads by example. An example of this is on page 72 when Jack let the fire die out, “’All right. Light the fire.’…

QUOTES--- Different leaders have different goals and ways to lead others. In “Lord of the Flies”, Ralph, who led by reasoning, is undoubtedly a better leader than Jack, who dictates over his fellow people. Throughout the novel, Ralph presented himself to be a better leader than Jack. He remained civilized and intelligent among the boys who became savage-like, guided the group and felt responsible for them, and focused on hope of being rescued. In our society, there are leaders like both Ralph and Jack.…

Both Ralph and Jack have shown that they each are resourceful in their own way, possess a superb sense of initiative, and are far wiser than their years suggest. However, Ralph, if given the chance to lead for an extended period of time on the island, would be a superior and more successful leader, in comparison to his rival, Jack. As Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn once said, “The battleline between good and evil runs through the heart of every…

The novel, Lord of the Flies, can be examined as a Biblical Allegory as many parallels are drawn between the novel and the story of the Garden of Eden. Golding uses similar environmental factors that can be compared between the two stories. The powerful theme of temptation is also evident, and represents how evil can sometimes over power against good. A third parallel can be drawn on the idea that the boys are under the presence of God, but are left by themselves on this microcosm without a physical higher authority to guide them away from evil.…

Jack is mostly similar to Napoleon because they both did not stand down and did whatever they could to get to power. Snowball would be most similar to Ralph as they both have the majority. Although animals and humans seem completely different, their idea of power is the same. They both have one leader who resembles power and one leader who will do anything to gain power. Napoleon was a power hungry pig and when he was made the leader of animal farm everything went downhill for him.…
