This novel revolves around the Russian revolution in 1917, the revolution led to a communist totalitarian state known as the Soviet Union. This novel is a satirical piece criticizing this revolution and the results of it. An article discussing the way this novel criticizes political revolution in a whole states “ Though it resembles the Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalin, it is more meaningfully an anatomy of all political revolutions, where the revolutionary ideals of justice, equality, and fraternity shatter in the event”(George Orwell and the Politics of Animal Farm). The article points out the novels umbrella criticism of all political revolutions, and how the ideals they support eventually shatter while the revolution takes place.

This novel gave an immediate outlook into the communist view of civil humanitarian rights. Also showing their immediate disregard of them. The pigs are a symbol of communist leaders and their treatment of their people. Only using their population to get ahead in their own ways, the pigs who are educated decide that they are the one’s to make the rules and lead the people. However, very quickly too, they stop leading and start using the other animals for their own gain. There are unseen conflict of classes that are not outwardly established, the classes are not violent and are barely even understood by those going through but to an outside observer it is obvious that in this novel there is a conflict of interest between the pigs and the other animals. However the pigs are the only ones that have the power and education to get what they desire. These animals are all symbols for various historical figures. The pigs also use elitist language in their propaganda “Four legs good, two legs bad,” (Chapter 3 Animal Farm) a propaganda using language that only applies to an ‘elite’ few. Shows a propagandistic need of leadership change. The pigs are becoming to elitist, and their propaganda shows it as well. “All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others” (chapter 10 Animal Farm) another propaganda showing there is corruption amongst the leaders of the farm, it makes a reference to all of the animals but shows the elitist mindset once again. "No question now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which" (Chapter 10, pg. 35). The pigs begin to behave like humans and they start to become indistinguishable. Creating a metaphor
